I have experienced a lot, I like to see how others perceive the US and its people, and the things we take for granted. Some of the countries I visited .....

MUST be a Subject Matter Expert at your job. MUST be willing to sacrifice personal off time to care for Sailors and the community. During work hours is your job. I am talking about after work. Work your Chief or LPO out of a job. Always get .....

If you have not read the MCPONS 1st class guidelines you are behind the power curve.

A great Petty Officer first and foremost has to be there for those who are junior to him/her. What do I mean? Everything that a great Petty Officer does is for his/her juniors, not for themselves. If the Petty Officer is able to gain from the experience, all the better. I'm always telling my juniors, "I'm not here for me. I'm here for you."

What physical training you perform to pass the PFA?

I exercises M-F and focus on my weak areas.. Training is specific... I also watch what I ate.

What does it takes to become a Command Master Chief?

I have not a clue on how to become a CMC but I aspire to achieve this goal one day.  I have an awesome Chief to ask my hard questions.  With so much drive and passion I feel I should crawl before I walk or run.  Chief Johnston always remind me of the laws of gravity when speeding up the Navy ranks without proper training and guidance.  He shares with me it’s better to experience the deckplate challenges and issues now as a E5.  My Chief always tell me to lead from my current paygrade and follow and support the leaders who lead me.  I’m committed to not rushing my aspirations but if anyone have information on how to become the CMC or how to successfully move up the ranks I am listening.

How should junior Sailors prepare for leadership roles?

I've learned from my leadership to take the hardest jobs possible this will ensure that you are groomed for future assignements and issues that may arise from being a leader.  Also tough jobs provide experience needed that a text book or simple jobs will not give.  My Chief is big on teaching us to be solution oriented when tackling tasks during our day to day.  It's one thing to find a problem and report it but you start to make things happen when we as a division are all bring solutions for problems we encounter during our day to day.

What's the best advice given by your mentor?

The best thing that my mentor (ABHC MABRY) told me was to never allow someone else control what i want to do. I can only stop myself from achieving my goals. So to always keep fighting and asking
questions when i have them thats what he's here for.

What physical training you perform to pass the PFA?

I try to maintain an overall training program that includes stretching, weight lifting (3 sets of 10 with the exception of abs which is 3 sets of 20), 2 minutes worth of sit ups, 2 minutes worth of push ups and the elliptical (what I take my test on). I always test myself. That is, I always PT like it's the official PFA. I keep a log of what I have done so as to keep a track of my overall fitness. That way, I know exactly how I should perform on the day of the PFA. I also try to add 5 every week or two. That is, I try to do 5 more push ups, 5 more sit ups, 5 more pounds on the weights. I also try to up the settings on the elliptical to make it a harder work out. Combine all of this d I think that it will help those who are struggling with the PFA. It's helped me.

To me, the importance of being a mentor is to make sure that our sailors are being taken care of. This is especially important for our junior sailors who are away from home and on their own for the first time. . .
