Phising is the act of sending false e-mail to a user claiming to be an established legitimate enterprise in an attempt to scam the user into providing private information that will be used for identity theft.

Ten Phishing Tips
Never respond to requests for personal information via e-mail or in a pop-up window.

Type in URLs instead of clicking on links to websites that typically ask for credit card and account numbers.

Be cautious about opening any attachment or downloading any files from emails you receive, regardless of who sent them.

Always verify that you are at the right website before entering data

Report suspected abuses of your personal information to the proper authorities.

Avoid clicking links in email from that ask for your personal information.

What out for “phishy” emails pretending to be from the bank or the government.

Never enter your personal information in a pop-up screen.

Phishing can also happen by phone. You may receive a phone call from someone pretending to be someone making false claims soliciting personal information.

Protect your personal computer by installing spam filters, anti-virus, anti-spyware software, and a firewall.
